As Senior Advisor to 1607 Capital Partners, Fred helps to set the overall strategic direction of the firm’s investment portfolio, calling on his considerable experience and expertise in the closed end fund field. Fred retired as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tattersall Advisory Group (TAG) in June 2004. At the time of his retirement, TAG managed over $18 billion and served a diverse group of clients. While at TAG, Fred established and built the closed-end-fund model that is now at the core of 1607 Capital’s approach. He also hired the team that now makes up 1607’s investment team.
Since retiring from TAG in 2004, Fred has remained actively involved in his family’s portfolio while serving on several local investment committees. Fred is the past Chairman of the University of Richmond’s Spider Management Group, responsible for the University’s multi-billion dollar endowment. Fred also served on West Virginia University’s Foundation Board and was Chairman of the Investment Committee. Additionally, he is the founder and an emeritus board member of Richmond First Tee. He also serves on the National Trustee Board of The First Tee. Fred was elected to the Greater Richmond Business Hall of Fame in 2009 and to the West Virginia Business Hall of Fame in 2011.
